The purpose of window treatments or curtains is more than just to enhance the beauty of your home. Their purpose is also to provide total darkness and privacy you need. However, usually people only emphasize on choosing the right style, color and fabric of curtains, but there are many more things that decide the overall look of your curtains, windows and the room and here we will be discussing few such things.
People generally find it very confusing to decide that how long their curtains should be. If you are also finding it difficult to decide that how long your Hunter Douglas window coverings must be, then here are few important tips.
Floor-length just works wonderfully, unless there is a deep sill or a radiator in the way. Ready-made panels are available in length from 63-144 inches. Measure from where you will hang the rod to the floor, then round up. You can always get them shortened a bit if required. You will get very trendy look if the window covering makes contact with the floor. Too-short curtains can look awkward. Here are two sure approaches.
- Slightly touching the floor
Windows that extend onto the floor by 1-3 inches are really in today. They are more relaxed than those that graze the floor, but they still feel custom-made. If you are worried about accurate measuring or you have uneven floors, then this style is just right for you. In formal rooms, a properly falling curtain on the floor can look amazing, but it is also high-maintenance. You have to refluff them every time your cat lies on them or your vacuum the floor.
- Just touching the sill or floor
This look is tailored and classic. This also works wonderfully if you will be opening and closing the curtains a lot. The fabric should hover half an inch above the floor or just touch the floor. This is also a nice approach for café curtains that work effectively in spots like the bathroom and kitchen, where long curtains are not practical.
Where you should mount your curtains in relation to the window?
In general, hanging curtain brackets on the wall above and outside the window molding looks amazing; it allows fabric to fall decently. If you don’t want your beautiful window frames to be covered, then an inside mount can work well. Here are two more hanging tricks that home owners love for enhancing the look of the windows.
- Hang wider than the frame
For grander look and allow more light to get in expand the rod 3-6 inches beyond the frame on each side. This will also work effectively to reveal pretty molding. In this case, you may want to leave as much as 12 inches on either side. Don’t forget to adjust your width measurements for this look.
- Hang above the frame
If you want to create the illusion of a taller window, place the rod 4-6 inches above the window frame. You can also mount the rod halfway between the ceiling molding and the frame. Remember to keep it limited maximum 8 inches above the frame or it may look awkward. A track mounted on the ceiling also makes window look taller. Keep in mind to account for the extra fabric when measuring.
