Grab a Hold of Your Bedroom Zen

Is your bedroom not an inviting and cozy space anymore? There are many things that can affect the feel of your personal room and thus get in the way of unwinding at the end of the day. Get your bedroom Zen back and make it a place of relaxation and tranquility.
1. Get organized
Put deodorants, perfumes, make up, lotion bottles – anything that’s cluttering the top of your dresser – into the top drawer; or get a nightstand to put everything away. Keeping surfaces organized will help you get into a calm and restful mood. Don’t forget to keep a glass of water close by in case you get thirsty during the night.
2. Clean the room
Dust your bedroom at least once a week. Clean up any dirt or mud tracked in with shoes. If you use the space under your bed as storage, keep it tidy and free of dust – dust mites cause allergies and skin rashes.
3. Get the bed of your dreams
Did you know that in your lifetime, you’ll spend as much as 200,000 hours in bed? Get a bed that is comfortable, kind to your back and just the right size and height for you. Dreaming will be easy when you have the bed of your dreams.
When buying a mattress, check the type of foam used. A good mattress should be comfortable and also provide lumbar support.
4. Get comfortable
Tired of stepping out of bed onto a cold, hard floor? Get a soft and comfy rug and place it by the bed. Use throw pillows to make your bed more inviting and cozy.
5. Install mood lighting
Bright, harsh overhead lights will keep your body alert and prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep. Get bedside lamps that give out soft yellow light. Install blinds and shades on your windows – not only will you be able to control the amount of sunlight getting in, but also block the glare of street lights and passing vehicles.
6. Take no tech
Even as few as fifteen minutes on your smartphone / tablet / laptop will prevent your brain from shutting down, which means it will take longer for you to fall asleep. Keep the television out of the bedroom as well.
In our always-online world, it’s hard to switch off; but if you leave the technology out of the room, it’ll improve your health and happiness. Have a cup of chamomile, read a book or listen to calming songs instead.
7. Have a place to sit that’s not the bed
Get a couple of upholstered chairs so you have a place to check important emails. They’ll help you keep all technology out of bed.
8. Put up calming artwork
Steer away from family photos in the bedroom. Keep the space emotionally light and put up photographs and paintings that have a cool and peaceful effect on you.
